That being said without a cooler a processor would burn itself out within minutes or less. There are different brands of processors but the two most known are AMD and Intel. Keep in mind that some of these units can be quite large and don’t follow the average design specifications.
As a result they may be oddly shaped or very tall in order to achieve their unique method of airflow. Before purchasing one make sure that your case has sufficient room for it. Sometimes a cooler might be just a bit too tall for your side panel and this forces you to buy a smaller one. Also remember to take precautions when installing or removing a CPU cooler so that you don’t accidentally damage any other components.
When buying a new AMD processor it will most likely come with an AMD Cooler. If it does not then you need to shop around for one. The best place to buy a cooler for your processor is the internet. There are many specialty shops, online marketplaces, online auction sites, and of course manufacturers websites to choose from. Remember to grab some thermal grease as well before beginning your installation process.
Some heat sink assemblies don’t come with thermal grease pre applied and those that do may not have high quality grease with them. This grease is what sits between your processor and its coolers heat sink assembly. The better quality of thermal grease you have the better heat will be dissipated from the processor and into the heat sink. Remember that when it comes to personal computing it never hurts to err on the side of caution and have too much cooling rather than too little.
